The Collapse of Global Liberalism and the Rise of a Postliberal World Order
In the above podcast, the economist Phillip Pilkington and political philosopher Patrick Deneen discuss the unsustainable prospects of the Liberal Project in the 21st century.
The conversation explores why liberalism is both parasitic and yet hostile to older hierarchical forms that persist, why the regimes of today seem far more desperate and reactionary than they did a generation ago, etc.
What interests us in the context of this blog, however, is something more specific: the goal of Liberal Promethean modernity to fight the Natural Order and to right the "wrongs" of Creation [e.g. that a boy who was born in the "wrong" body could have a girl's body, that an Afghani refugee from a patriarchal society can take of her burqa and become a CEO even as the citizenry of the host country can barely afford their utility bills, etc.]. Liberalism is essentially ambition to liberate. The question is, liberation from what?
In the long enough term, the answer is everything.
Side note: Also, good to know: the intro to "Rules for Radicals", the most important American text on leftist political praxis, has an homage to Lucifer...
